TECNO showcased its Robot Dog named ‘Dynamic 1’ with its design inspired by the German Shepherd to aid with smart home entertainment, training, and education.
Dynamic 1 can do things like climb stairs, shake hands, and bow. It has an AI hypersense fusion system and an Intel real sense D430 depth camera that allows it to recognize obstacles and move around. It also has a headlight system, which illuminates and acts as an indicator for interacting with people. The device is powered by an octa-core ARM CPU and equipped with 64GB NAND, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.2 to facilitate connectivity with other devices. It sports a 15000mAh battery with 90 mins of runtime.
Pocket Go
The Pocket Go AR gaming set seamlessly integrates AR glasses with an AR Windows handheld controller. Its purpose is to elevate the gaming experience to a cinematic level of excellence. The AR headset features a 0.71-inch micro-OLED screen, meticulously designed to replicate the visual immersion of a massive 215-inch television viewed from a distance of six meters. Notably, the headset incorporates cutting-edge technology, including a six-axis gyroscope, N’BASS® nano-structured acoustic materials, and sophisticated AI-driven head-tracking and vibration algorithms, all aimed at enhancing the overall immersive gaming experience.
TECNO Pova 6 Pro 5G
TECNO also unveiled the Pova 6 Pro 5G at the MWC, a successor to the Pova 5 Pro. The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek 6080, a 6nm 5G SoC with up to 12GB RAM variant. It features a 6.78 full-HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a powerful 6000mAh battery with 70W charging capability and 10W reverse charging. On the camera front, it has a triple camera setup in the back with a main sensor of 108 MP. It also sports an e-sports pro-operation engine and 4D vibration sense for gaming. The smartphone will be launched at the end of February in India, Saudi Arabia, and the Philippines with a price starting from $199.
Lenovo
Lenovo ThinkBook Transparent Display Laptop Concept
The 17.3-inch borderless, transparent Micro-LED display offers a new way of interacting with a laptop. Even the keyboard area is transparent which can be switched between a keyboard or a drawing board. The device aims to combine virtual and real elements to offer an interactive experience. The device is a proof of concept from Lenovo and will not be available to consumers.
Adaptive Display Devices
Lenovo and Motorola also showcased a bendable smartphone which had been unveiled earlier at Lenovo Tech World 2023. The concept smartphone sports a 6.9-inch FHD+ pOLED display and runs on Android. The phone highlights Lenovo’s design capabilities and could appear in devices in coming years.
AI PCs for Businesses
Lenovo also unveiled its enterprise laptop lineup, namely the ThinkPad T14, T14s, T16, X12 and variants. The devices are powered by Intel’s Core Ultra Processors and run on Windows 11 facilitating AI features on the device. The T14 Gen 5 variant will also be available with AMD Ryzen 8040 series processors, offering more choices to users.
The laptops sport a 5MP camera, a noise-canceling mic, and narrower bezels that offer a larger display in smaller sizes. The laptops continue to be business-centric and are designed around business users and their use cases. The laptops are more repair-friendly and Lenovo worked with iFixit to achieve the same.
Smart Connect
Lenovo and Motorola have jointly launched Smart Connect to offer seamless integration across devices of the two brands. Users would be able to switch between devices and continue tasks, share data, and manage phone notifications. The feature would be available for laptops running Windows 10 and above and would be limited to certain smartphones and tablets from the two brands.
Lenovo-certified Refurbished
Focusing on sustainability, Lenovo will certify refurbished laptops that enterprises can deploy. For now, Lenovo and only its partners will offer the certification and provide a trust factor for the refurbished devices.
Motorola’s Partnership with Corning
Motorola announced that from H2 2024 its entire devices portfolio will be sporting Corning Gorilla Glass. With this partnership, Motorola further emphasizes its focus on durable smartphones as displays are the components that break easily.
OnePlus Watch 2
The new OnePlus Watch 2 is the successor to the original OnePlus Watch launched in April 2021. The smartwatch runs on Wear OS 4 and is powered by chipsets from Qualcomm and BES. The watch will have a 100-hour battery life on its smart mode. The device sports 32GB storage and 2GB RAM.
The watch could stand a chance to be the go-to WearOS smartwatch as Samsung’s watches continue to work best with Samsung’s smartphones.
The smartwatch will retail for $300 from March 5, 2024.
Galaxy Ring
Samsung showcased its new smart ring called the Galaxy Ring, which it earlier teased at the Galaxy Unpacked event along with the Galaxy S24 series launch. This marks Samsung’s entry to the smart ring market and further highlights Samsung’s commitment to health tracking. The Galaxy Ring will be available in three colours – Ceramic Black, Platinum Silver and Gold. The shiny smart ring will be available in US ring sizes 5 to 13 and the larger sizes will offer longer battery life.
Samsung is touting the smart ring as a companion for the Galaxy smartwatches and would offer better health tracking and insights combined. The Galaxy ring will track sleep, heart rate, breathing rate, among others. All the metrics would be used in determining a Vitality Score, Samsung’s metric to quantify health.
The wearable is Android OS-compatible but there are no details on other OS.
Network
Huawei’s 5.5G leap
Building on MWC’s core theme of 5G and beyond, Huawei claimed to have the world’s first 5.5G Intelligent Core early in the year before the commercial launch of 5G Advanced. Huawei demonstrated its full spectrum of 5.5G solutions, which will aid in catering to a wide range of use cases across diverse industries. Huawei has been at the forefront of the commercial verification of 5.5G globally. The brand has signed an MoU with Turkey’s Turkcell to achieve the full potential of important 5.5G technologies such as Passive IoT and RedCap while ensuring energy efficiency.
Huawei also highlighted its advancements in 5G technology in partnership with China Unicom. The Vendor-Operator collaboration is critical to unlocking new opportunities in smart living, and industrial applications, and achieving the aim of intelligent digital transformation.
ZTE’s 5.5G push
As we enter the second half of the 5G era, ZTE demonstrated its 5G Advanced-enabled gear, which was designed with the increased requirement for energy efficiency and data needs in mind. ZTE’s cutting-edge radio platform delivers near-constant power amplifier efficiency, resulting in a drastically reduced power consumption.
The Chinese company also demonstrated its 5G-A UniRadio for B2C segments, which reduces the number of radio units necessary for deployment, and its 1.6GHz bandwidth mmWave AAU for eMBB use cases. ZTE’s CampSite 5G-A solution, which combines communication and computing and can be set up rapidly, will be a significant advancement in industries such as broadcasting, event shows, and backpack-free VR entertainment.
ZTE also signed a MoU with Malaysia operators CellcomDigi and Umobile and will evaluate a wide variety of 5G-A features such as Automatic Antenna Pattern Control, AAU Hibernation, and Native-AI Intelligent RAN.
Other key network equipment vendors shared the same sentiment. Before 5G networks can be monetized, operators must equip them with new technology to accommodate the use cases that will emerge in the near future. Vendors continue to emphasize that 5G as a technology is still in its early stages and will find success in sectors other than eMBB as uptake across diverse businesses occurs. Nevertheless, Operators will need to upgrade to the new standards.
